Counseling/coaching can help facilitate lasting change. Not long ago, “therapy,” or counseling, was associated solely to the treatment of mental illness, but counselors today are trained to be versatile, offering comprehensive services. Counselors are taught an array of techniques that can be applied to help clients make a career change, set personal goals or make other positive shifts that bring individuals closer to their dreams. Some counselors may treat addiction and other pervasive issues that coaches would not address.
An individual may begin by choosing coaching only to find that shifting perceptions and setting goals falls short. Despite the best of intentions, occasionally, past patterns linked to powerful emotions and attachment issues rise to subvert our plans. Brainspotting (BSP) is relatively quick and effective techniques to calm or neutralize emotions that fuel inappropriate behavior and/or impulsive decision-making.
On the other hand, individuals who think they may have a deep-seated issue, discover that the stress of a transition – for instance, from college to career or moving to a new house – have caused them to react in unusual ways that are completely understandable given their temporary life circumstances. Support during stressful times, such as learning mindfulness and/or other coaching skills may be all that they need to get back on track to make healthy choices and to create a more peaceful and vital life.
